Though accessorizing with belts isn’t particularly new, lately we’ve been noticing fresh takes on cinching that deserve to be shared with our fellow Nasty Gals. During the chilly months, we love giving shape to otherwise bulky winter coats and cardigans with belts of all shapes and sizes, but thankfully this styling tip can easily be translated long after you shed the parka.
Whether you prefer rocking a low slung belt with a military-inspired ensemble a la Rag & Bone or using a waist-cincher to dress up a basic tee or classic trench, belts are a perfectly modern (not to mention affordable) way to add polish your spring wardrobe. We recommend investing in a timeless brown leather belt with some extra length so you can wear it at your hips or looped through at your waist as well as a few bold vintage numbers that pack a bit more punch.
So do tell, what’s your favorite way to accessorize with belts?
We absolutely adore how Montreal-based blogger Marie-Christine toughened up her adorable lace dress with NG’s Power Up Velvet Blazer and bold black accessories, so we asked her to divulge a bit more about her signature style:
Describe your style:I love mixing opposites like casual with romantic and a structured piece with draping or ruffles. Most important, I wear whatever makes me feel comfortable and confident!
What do you find most inspiring?I get inspired by everything that surrounds me: people in the streets, runways, magazines, movies (especially the old ones), travels and blogs.
One thing you couldn’t live without:A great pair of sky high heels, they can make any boring outfit look fabulous!
What are you most looking forward to wearing this season?Nude & pastel colors, leather shorts and flower print dresses.
With the resurgence of DIY Manic Panic dye jobs and pastel hair, we suppose it was inevitable that spring’s hottest beauty trend would make its way to a more temporary, albeit more unusual, territory — the eyebrow. As seen on the Balenciaga AW10 runway, we predict this delightfully fresh accent will become all the rage with the experimental fashion set as the weather heats up and we think it’d look absolutely fab with a neutral palette or wild prints alike.
So gals — do you think you’d embrace the colored eyebrow trend or is it a bit too avant-garde Easter bunny?
Well, it’s official. We’re completely smitten with the mash-and-clash print parings that have been popping up on the runway and sidewalk alike. Because not only does it give you the chance to be a bit more daring and creative than usual when getting dressed, it also makes for delicious eye candy! That’s why we’ve decided to round up some of the most awe-inspiring photos from fashion glossies and the blogosphere, topped off with Nasty Gal pieces that are prime for experimentation!
As you very well may know, I was so excited by seeing how one customer styled her NG piece that I’ve been racking my brain for ways that we can get inspired by fellow Nasty Gals on the regular. And while it would be nice to get a public forum up-and-running in the near future, for now let’s get started the old fashioned way.
All you have to do is email a photo (or five) of yourself sporting your favorite NG piece of the moment to jaclyn@shopnastygal.com and we’ll feature the most fab ensembles on our blog every week…maybe more depending on how quickly they pour in!

We here at Nasty Gal have long been fans of the sock in all its forms — knee highs, over-the-knee, thigh-highs — so watching them pop up en masse on the runway and streets has been particularly exciting. Better still is the fact that people have been layering them in a multitude of new ways that hadn’t occurred to even the biggest hosiery aficionados! And not only do they look totally fresh paired with dresses and shorts alike, they also do a pretty good job of keeping your gams toasty during the awkward transitional months.
Despite how wrong it may feel stepping out onto the streets for the first time wearing what was once condemned in the fashion world, ahem, socks with open-toe shoes — we assure you this adorable accessory trend will be sticking around for the long term, so just have fun with it!
Without further ado, our fave five ways to accessorize with socks:
1. Add a jolt of color to your neutral wardrobe staples with bold patterned socks
2. Pair knee-high athletic socks with a cropped tee and shorts for a perfectly sportly ensemble
3. Scrunched knee-highs with platform heels give feminine frocks a downtown edge
4. Take your look to the next level by layering monochromatic socks of different lengths
5. Not into wearing double socks? Experiment with layering patterned tights with thigh-highs instead!
Just when we thought it was impossible to love Miuccia any more, we discovered the insanely gorgeous ‘Fantasy Lookbook’ for Prada’s SS10 collection that rather resembles an editorial spread for French Vogue. Of course the rainbow-kissed and double exposed photos quickly lead to an impromptu brainstorming session for the next NG lookbook, but the most important question of all: what do you all want to see??
When Australian customer Taylor tweeted earlier tonight about how she styled the Cloudy Leopard Jumper, I couldn’t help but share. From the orange-red lips to her all black converse, she knows how to make a buyer proud. Thank you, Taylor, for giving us a fresh slant on an adorable piece! On another note, I was so excited by this that I’m tinkering with the idea of a public forum that NG customers could post how they wear our pieces. What’s your opinion — good idea or bad? Suggestions please!
With a stormy week on the horizon, it’s hard not to daydream about getting as far away from here as possible…somewhere bronzed surfer boys and piña coladas run freely would be ideal.
Well the editors of Elle answered our prayers with a lustworthy tropical editorial in their March issue, letting us escape to a sun-soaked island on our lunch break. It was so inspiring that we decided to put our spin on this amazing military-meets-80s look that we fully intend on rocking at the beach this spring, and hope you will too!
