Hey everybody, it’s Christina and I think it’s about time for my official introduction as the newest staff member here at NASTY GAL. Some of you may have already received some emails from me as I will be doing most of the correspondence + tons of other super fun and exciting work around here. We are still a small company and I’m so happy to be joining the team!
I know the store looks a little empty, but this past week Sophia and I were in Las Vegas working extra hard in putting together a chic collection of fall pieces for the “shop new” section. We found some amazing designers and beautiful pieces that are very NASTY GAL and we think you’ll be thrilled! Stay tuned next week for more amazing vintage + two new designers that we’ll be introducing. We couldn’t be more excited.
Our long overdue Fit Guide is now up, with details on how we measure our vintage clothing, as well as tips for determining which pieces will fit you best. Click the image below to enlarge!
We had another AMAZING shoot this morning, and are proud to preview even more of this week’s new vintage arrivals! Remember ladies, we only have one of each piece–so be sure to act fast! A few adorable dresses were added to the shop last night as well. Take a peek!
The adorable Desiree Marr of Lucky magazine cited shopnastygal.com as her “current online obsession”! It’s perfectly fitting, since we’re obsessed right back. Take a peek at her sweet pairing of a rust-colored vintage dress and neutral heels!
When I began selling vintage online nearly two years ago, I was faced with a task that every business owner encounters: finding a name for their business. For me, it was important to choose a name that represented an attitude as well as an aesthetic. The easy route would have been to hop on the hippie bandwagon and name it something sweet–but I felt that approach was just a little too familiar, and much softer than what I was going for.
I used to spend a lot of time collecting hard-to-find records, and unearthing unpopular or otherwise rare music that had fallen under the radar–sometimes for decades. I consulted my library for inspiration, and after little time I’d settled on the name of funkstress Betty Davis’ hard-hitting third album, NASTY GAL.
Once the wife of musician Miles Davis and an ex-runway model, she was a true sex symbol. Her lyrics were unabashedly raunchy and sex-drenched, and were accompanied by one of the the best rhythm sections of the era (or ever, for that matter). To put it shortly: she’s good stuff. Need proof?
“She was the first Madonna. But Madonna is more like Marie Osmond when compared to Betty Davis.” -Carlos Santana
We’re busting out another round of fabulous vintage this week, with some amazing leather jackets, a few flirty frocks, and one killer pair of 1960s Balenciaga shoes. Also, we’ve got some very Balenciaga-esque round sunnies on the way, with another style of the France Romance Shades and some other goodies. Take a peek!
If you haven’t heard already, Mini Market is now in full swing! For the rest of the month NASTY GAL will be showcasing a small collection of amazing vintage pieces as part of Silverman Gallery and Look Boutique’s Mini Market exhibition. We had an amazing time on opening night, Refinery29 was there covering the event and we even managed to snap a few photos of our own:
NASTY GAL models were on hand to showcase the goods:
We’re gearing up for another great update this week, with some amazing leather skirts, tuxedo jackets, and this season’s must-have: black lace. Also–a faux Chanel bomber, and an adorably cute burgundy tuxedo blazer from Christian Dior.
Expect these pieces tomorrow or Friday (if you’re on our mailing list, you’ll get an email), and be sure to act fast as each is one-of-a-kind!
