Stoked on vintage tees. Above is a sampling of what’s coming to the store next week and the weeks to come — we’re swimming in paper-thin cotton! Harley tanks, band tees, and crazy animal prints galore. Killer.

Today while doing some blog-surfing, I came across Elizabeth’s amazing blog, The Trashicist. A NY resident with impeccable (and utterly original) style, she’s such an inspiration. Above she wears our fabulous vintage Testarossa Safety Shades. Bravo!

I’m not going to get all recessionista on you here. I’ll admit, I love me some couture. Couture has always been about fantasy and escapism, and in times like these, what could be better? Below are a few of my favorite looks from this season Fall 2009 Couture shows
I loved the throwback to the 50′s shown by Christian Dior.
I have no words to describe the work of Ricardo Tisci
And a very fond farewell to the couture atelier of Christian Lacroix. We hear that there’s a chance he might be saved though. Fingers crossed!
What were some of your favorite looks? Please share!

What a day! Mackenzie and Rachael, the gorgeous co-founders/designers of LITTER, stopped by today to play dress-up and talk shop. The super stylish sisters let me toss some vintage on them (Mackenzie, at left, wears a vintage bandage dress and Rachael, right, wears a studded suede fringed halter), and I was lucky enough to wear one of their fabulous one-off headpieces as well. We’re in talks over a series of pieces exclusive to NASTY GAL. Fingers crossed!

I couldn’t be more excited about next week’s colossal vintage update! We’re busting out the serious stuff, ladies, and this is only the half of it. Seriously. In fact, we’ll be adding over 100 pieces to the shop, both vintage and new. Be sure to join our mailing list to find out the moment it happens. My favorite piece by far is the blue silk Givenchy gown. Dripping in rhinestones and silver metallic threading, it’s A-MAZING. What’s your favorite?

Went up to Haight street on Sunday for, as you might suspect, some vintage shopping. Found some badass pieces, including a heavily studded black denim jacket (we’re talking 5 pounds, people), some bandage dresses, and more. Will I be keeping any of these prized finds? Heck no! I’m the Mother Teresa of vintage…what I get really excited about are vintage tees like the early 80s Black Sabbath one above. Boyfriend pictured at right.

There are postmodern times. I hate that word, but man is it true. From the age of hippies all the way into the 1990s, it seems that nearly everything is back — and only the minutia of last week could possibly be outdated. There are few designers who aren’t borrowing heavily (or just plain ripping) from the past, and that’s what makes my job as a vintage buyer so interesting. Seeing what trends are revived and revised that influence today’s runways is certainly one of my favorite hobbies. I totally loved this spread from Elle Russia’s August issue that took everything powerful about the 1980s and made it shine brightly once again…

We’re totally smitten with Casey’s girl next door appeal a la Flashdance-era Jennifer beals. Get ready for 100+ vintage and new pieces next week, with fabulous arrivals from Oscar De La Renta, Givenchy, Versace, and Missoni. So very Nasty.

Meet Trasienne. Not only is she one of our sweetest customers, she’s also a gorgeous girl with spot-on style. We hunted her down with a few questions to find out more about her style and what makes her a Nasty Gal.
PS: The pieces she wears in the images above are all from her huge vintage collection via…us!
Name: Trasienne Estrada
Age: 23
Occupation: real estate developer & part time zombie slayer
1. What is your favorite thing in the store right now that you haven’t purchased yet.
YET. The Bleach And Destroy Jeans! The rips, bleach spots and shredding are so rock n roll…I have to admit that I am a 90s grunge baby through and through. I’ve always wanted a pair of ripped jeans but I can’t figure out what size I would be for the life of me.
2. Why do YOU think the name Nasty Gal originates?
Miss 70′s one-woman funkadelic star Betty Davis, why ya gots tah be great? and no, i didn’t google that :P
3. Favorite trend of the moment? Trend you hate?
I was never really an 80s fan. But after seeing the cutout dresses and strong shouldered blazers, I started asking myself why i never was. The bandage dress i got from nasty gal last month is probably going to be credited as a springboard of sorts if i do undergo an 80s phase. It’s really a love/hate relationship with this era.
4. How do you think the fashion scene is different in the Philippines vs. the US?
The Philippines is a tropical country, it’s always summer here :P We don’t enjoy the luxury of buying winter clothes like that amaaaazing pink mongolian coat showcased last december in your store :)
5. Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
In malls, I go for the european brands like topshop, zara and accessorize but nothing beats the flea markets we have here for cheap scores on the batiks and tie-dye prints.
6. How would you describe your style?
I’m all about exploring the spectrum of nude hues and miss prima ballerina.
Thanks, Trasienne!
xoxo
