Nasty Gals Do It Better: Tap Shorts

2010082344

Fresh on the heels of our musings on fur, we came across this amazing outfit rocked by Australian NG, Sarah Lauren.

The leggy blogger topped off her Tied Tap Shorts and Hail Mary Thigh-Highs with a shaggy faux-fur jacket and sheer blouse, which we think is pretty perfect for that awkward transition into fall.

Nasty Gals Do It Better: The Lita

741071_84

We’re head-over-platform heels for the way Shan paired her mustard JC Litas with a kimono top and cutoffs, giving them a Talitha Getty-esque boho feel.

Thoughts? What’s your fave way to rock wooden platforms?

We’ve been devout fans of Texan blogger Vintage Virgin and her impressive knack for giving a fresh spin to retro styles for quite some time now, so we had to get the scoop on what inspires the girl behind the vintage sunnies:

First fashion memory: I went to a David Bowie and Billy Idol concert with my uncle when I was 8 and dressed up like the love child of Diana Ross and Punky Brewster. I got so many comments that night that I didn’t want it to end. After that, I was hooked!

Your three wardrobe essentials: A shitload of jewelry, a statement bag and vintage everything!

Favorite fashion decade: This is a hard one because I love them all but if I had a gun to my head, I would pick the ’60s, man!

Style muses: Twiggy and Peggy Moffitt.

What are you most excited about wearing right now? Crochet, crochet and more crochet!

One thing you couldn’t live without: My son, Ephraim. I was a wild child growing up and when he came along, I was able to calm down and focus on my potential. I honestly would be nothing without him!

Speaking of, how did you start blogging? I would search high and low for a blog with versatile style and clothes I could afford. Once I couldn’t find it, I decided to start my own! I just wanted people to know you don’t need to spend a fortune to look this good and everything’s better in vintage!

Your fave NG pieces at the moment: The Lace Bell Bottom Pant, because I love a good bell bottom, especially in lace! The Crissy Cross Romper, because I’m a romper whore and the one-shoulder and print takes the cake. The Copen Platform, because you get a lot of height and a little vintage all in one. Last but not least, the Sienna Scalloped Crochet Tunic. Since my latest obsession is crochet, this is a must-have in my wardrobe to pair with my cutoffs. The slouch, the fit, the semi-circle scallop bottom…LOVE!

Nasty Gals Do It Better: 70s-Inspired Crochet

dsc_05412

As soon as we saw the 70s-inspired yet thoroughly modern way that On The Racks blogger Laura Ellner styled her Sienna Crochet Tunic (a NG obsession!), it became crystal clear what had to be done. So, we caught up with the San Francisco fashionphile for some fresh summer inspiration:

Which piece in your closet best sums up your style? A Jeffrey Campbell clog: loud, comfortable and considered questionable to some!

Anything you’d never been caught dead in? Kitten heels…ick.

Favorite fashion decade: Definitely the 1920s. I’d love to spend my nights frolicking around in a flapper dress with feathers, pearls and a long cigarette.

What are you most excited to rock this summer? My new vintage Levi’s cutoffs. I’m totally obsessed with their itty bitty length and high-rise awesomeness. Just waiting for the frigid SF weather to warm up so I can give them a test run!

Summer reading list: Blogs and magazines rule my life. I love W, V and magazines with more than a single letter for a title like Nylon. The list of blogs could go on for days, but some of my current faves are Holier Than Now, Late Afternoon, Song of Style, Going West, Corks and Caftans and Haiku Ambulance.

Current Nasty Gal faves: The In The Wild Dress (it’s sheer and glorious), the Chica Chola Wedge (they’re enormous and eye-catching) and the Black ‘n Blue Moto Jacket (because it makes me feel tough).

Nasty Gals Do It Better: Lacey Neutrals

Though we’ve had our eye on Sterling Style blogger Taylor Price for some time now, it was her impeccable mix of feminine lace with neturals, socks and towering wooden platforms that really got us swooning.

Whether she opts for a boyfriend blazer or a giant Carrie-esque flower pin before walking out the door, Taylor definitely knows what she’s doing so we had to see what else she has up her sleeve:

First things first, describe your style: Eclectic, glamorous and practical, all in one.

What do you find most inspiring? I love people watching and seeing what real women wear to get coffee or to the movies.

Your three wardrobe essentials: A blazer, the perfect white tee and black ballet flats.

Favorite designers: Chloe, Stella McCartney and Prada.

What are you most excited about wearing this summer? I am in love with rompers. I wear them with socks, high heels, under trousers, etc. They’re so flirty and fun!

One thing you couldn’t live without: My running shoes.

Nasty Gals Do It Better: Sheer Blouses

img_38441

We’re totally head-over-heels about fashion blogger Maggie Chong’s youthful take on a classically demure piece, rocking NG’s Waldorf Pussy Bow Blouse with rolled-cuff denim shorts, oversized sunnies, towering boots and an 80′s-inspired gold watch. Since sheer blouses and denim are starting to pop up everywhere we look this season, we asked her to share what else makes her tick (sartorially speaking of course):

Okay, describe your style: Simple and classic.

Who do you find most inspiring? There are a lot on my list but if I had to choose one, it’d be Kate Lanphear for her style and beautiful editorials.

One thing you can’t live without: Non-fashion related, my laptop. Fashion related, sunglasses (to cover my puffy eyes).

Your 3 wardrobe essentials: Skinnies, heels and watches.

P.S. Send photos of how you wear your fave Nasty Gal pieces to jaclyn@shopnastygal.com for a chance to be featured on our blog!

Nasty Gals Do It Better: Structured Blazers

21

We absolutely adore how Montreal-based blogger Marie-Christine toughened up her adorable lace dress with NG’s Power Up Velvet Blazer and bold black accessories, so we asked her to divulge a bit more about her signature style:

Describe your style: I love mixing opposites like casual with romantic and a structured piece with draping or ruffles. Most important, I wear whatever makes me feel comfortable and confident!

What do you find most inspiring? I get inspired by everything that surrounds me: people in the streets, runways, magazines, movies (especially the old ones), travels and blogs.

One thing you couldn’t live without: A great pair of sky high heels, they can make any boring outfit look fabulous!

What are you most looking forward to wearing this season? Nude & pastel colors, leather shorts and flower print dresses.

Fendi Bender.

Vintage Fendi suede coat, vintage lightning print top, vintage angora skirt, Nasty Gal glasses, Jeffrey Campbell buckled wedges.

This week’s shoots were some of my favorite yet! The first half of the day is always the most brutal, since I usually forget to eat breakfast and overload myself with caffeine. This look came post-lunch, of course. Expect to see everything (including those rad sunglasses) in the store next week.

PS: We have a super exciting new model coming next week who also happens to be one of my favorite bloggers…can you guess who?

NASTY GAL Of The Month: Trasienne

51

31

22

Meet Trasienne. Not only is she one of our sweetest customers, she’s also a gorgeous girl with spot-on style. We hunted her down with a few questions to find out more about her style and what makes her a Nasty Gal.

PS: The pieces she wears in the images above are all from her huge vintage collection via…us!

Name: Trasienne Estrada
Age: 23
Occupation: real estate developer & part time zombie slayer

1. What is your favorite thing in the store right now that you haven’t purchased yet.

YET. The Bleach And Destroy Jeans! The rips, bleach spots and shredding are so rock n roll…I have to admit that I am a 90s grunge baby through and through. I’ve always wanted a pair of ripped jeans but I can’t figure out what size I would be for the life of me.

2. Why do YOU think the name Nasty Gal originates?

Miss 70′s one-woman funkadelic star Betty Davis, why ya gots tah be great? and no, i didn’t google that :P

3. Favorite trend of the moment? Trend you hate?

I was never really an 80s fan. But after seeing the cutout dresses and strong shouldered blazers, I started asking myself why i never was. The bandage dress i got from nasty gal last month is probably going to be credited as a springboard of sorts if i do undergo an 80s phase. It’s really a love/hate relationship with this era.

4. How do you think the fashion scene is different in the Philippines vs. the US?

The Philippines is a tropical country, it’s always summer here :P We don’t enjoy the luxury of buying winter clothes like that amaaaazing pink mongolian coat showcased last december in your store :)

5. Where are some of your favorite places to shop?

In malls, I go for the european brands like topshop, zara and accessorize but nothing beats the flea markets we have here for cheap scores on the batiks and tie-dye prints.

6. How would you describe your style?

I’m all about exploring the spectrum of nude hues and miss prima ballerina.

Thanks, Trasienne!

xoxo

Nancy
