We’ve been meaning to introduce the super rad staff that works behind the scenes at Nasty Gal for quite some time now but we’re all, you know, working. So after a few weeks of battling a deadly combo of procrastination and pestering, we got NG’s very first employee and buyer extraordinaire, Christina, to sit down for a quick Q+A:
Your 3 wardrobe essentials: A good pair of black tights, a fitted blazer and mid-rise skinny cigarette jeans. Also, old beat up tee shirts like my boyfriend’s Tulane University tee which can double as a pajama shirt and acceptable work attire, and a shredded Bon Jovi tee that Sophia is letting me borrow.
What do you find most inspiring? My generation. What people my age are doing – both fashion and non-fashion related.
Things you couldn’t live without: My family, my boyfriend, vacation time, coffee and donuts.
You’d never be caught dead wearing: Clothing that’s too bright, too tight and shows off too much skin. I don’t mind any of these alone, but combining them on my body is a scary thought.
What are you most excited to wear this fall? Pretty much any red leather shoes, giant chunky sweaters in neutral colors and maxi skirts. I’m also trying to hunt down a pair of crimson red velvet Doc Martens.
Your perfect Sunday: Sleeping in a bit, watching my boyfriend cook me breakfast, lounging around the house, catching a movie, grocery shopping without running into someone I know and getting Lamb Souvlaki at this tiny restaurant near my house.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Nasty Gal? When I have the time I like taking a lunch break with everyone. It’s fun to laugh and be silly for a little while. Also, being able to work with people my own age who really care about their jobs is awesome.
This past Friday, we were lucky enough to have our favorite Swedish style blogger Carolina Engman of Fashion Squad stop by Nasty Gal HQ to model some brand new vintage finds.
Since she’s in San Francisco for the summer to soak up the California sun with her boyfriend/Bloglovin’ founder (talk about a power couple!), we had her pick out her favorite warm-weather looks for exploring the city streets:
I had the pleasure of meeting with MSNBC recently to be interviewed for one of my favorite shows, Your Business. Boorrrring, I know — but while fashion is a ton of fun, running a business is a challenge of near-biblical proportions. I didn’t study business, and until I started selling vintage on eBay years ago, I had no idea that the entrepreneurial bug would bite my ass so hard. Anyway, It’s cool to make my parents proud (Hey Ma, I’m on TV!). But I beg of you, please, don’t watch it in HD.
These sketches of the ridiculously amazing Miu Miu SS/10 heels from Parisian blogger Janelle Burger might just be the next best thing to actually getting your hands on a pair.
We’re waiting with baited breath for her Etsy shop to open!
It goes without saying that we love a girl that loves fashion, but we really love a girl who loves fashion and isn’t afraid to eat.
Such is the case with the totally adorable Annabel of Blushing Ambition.
Along with always inspiring outfit posts, you can expect to find plenty of mouth-watering (like, so good you forget about that upcoming trip to Cabo) food shots and tales from restos around the Bay Area and L.A. She even shares recipes with step-by-step photos, sure to make even the most devout takeout fans want to spend more time in the kitchen.
So, naturally, we had to ask what inspires the girl that inspires us:
What article of clothing best sums up your style? I’d say that my favorite vintage oversized silk shirt best sums up my style because it’s simple and easy to wear. I usually dress it down with a pair of skinny jeans yet I can also easily wear it out at night tucked into a mini pencil skirt. I like feeling comfortable most of the time without putting in too much effort and drapey silk shirts are the easiest to style for me.
Your 3 wardrobe staples: A simple white t-shirt, comfortable black skinny jeans, and black ballet flats.
Who do you find most inspiring? Anna Karina as Nana in Vivre Sa Vie, I love how she wears cardigans in that film.
Is there anything you’d never be caught dead wearing? Harem pants. I don’t think I can pull off the “droopy poopy pants” as well as others.
Favorite fashion decade: The 60′s, hands down. I’m obsessed with sleeved shift dresses.
What are you most excited to wear this season? My super high peep-toe Swedish Hasbeens. I have a pair in Cognac and they go with just about everything!
Band you can’t stop listening to: Capsule. I have their latest release, Player, on repeat on my iPod.
Your perfect Sunday: Wake up, have a hearty brunch and coffee with the BF, wander over to Dolores Park and sit on the grass until it’s too chilly, pick up groceries for dinner, cook up a simple dinner at home, and end the night playing Starcraft II. Well, actually, now I watch my BF play, but he’s actually really good so it’s quite exciting to watch. We’re a boring couple.
Something you can’t live without: I can’t live without cheese. Havarti, manchego, cheddar, rocamadour, etc. I love cheese with everything but I especially love it by itself. It’s my favorite snack.
One last bit of advice, you might not want to look at this blog when you’re starving…for food or a new wardrobe.
